RULES FOR JEWELRY SUBMISSIONS
ASSEMBLAGE/EMBELLISHMENT
Jewelry items produced using the assemblage of purchased or
found items or by embellishing a purchased item will be judged
in Assemblage or Embellishment categories. The standards for
design and overall impression for these categories is very high
as these items are exceptions to all other categories in which
the crafted item must be produced from relatively raw materials.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Overall impression is the aesthetic response to the craft. The
finished handcrafted piece must have an aesthetic quality which
is greater than a combination of design, craftsmanship, and
materials. The artist/craftsman’s input must be the
majorcreative content of the craft. The craft should uphold or
enhance the image of the Mary C and the OSAA as Arts
organization striving for excellence.
The overall impression of the total works should show a
uniqueness in skill, creativity, and personal style in
comparison to trendy, commercially manufactured jewelry.
II. The hand worked
components must be the focal point.
a. Found items can be combined with handmade beads and/or
handmade components only as enhancement to the total handmade
nature of each piece. At least 90% of all pieces should be
comprised of
hand worked components.
• Jewelry, metal: May be fabricated or cast. Casts must be from
artist’s original design. No commercial findings or purchased
elements will be the focal point of any piece. Originality is
stressed.
• Jewelry, beaded: Loom weaving
of beads is acceptable. Designs must be original. Strung beads
MUST be handmade and contain a hand-made focal points, Pieces
made from only purchased components are not acceptable. Handmade
elements will be judged by the criteria of the medium, i.e.
glass, metal, wood, etc.
