The
Art House is an artist co-op in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It
has been mentioned in Southern Living Magazine numerous
times, and it draws visitors from all over the United States.
Housed
in a small, cozy cottage with a colorful history, it
showcases a wide variety of art, pottery, jewelry and a variety
of 3-dimensional art created by award-winning local artists in
its seven rooms. In addition, many artists have note cards and
other boutique items for sale.
The
Art House features paintings in a variety of mediums (oils,
acrylics, watercolor, and mixed media), photography, collages,
decorative gourds, wall hangings, hand-crafted jewelry, pottery,
wood turning, stained glass, bookmarks, and note cards depicting
original art. There are numerous browse bins containing a
variety of art at very reasonable prices.
The
Art House is a wonderful place to pick up a gift for any special
occasion or for your own home. Interior Designers frequent the
Art House to look for art for client's homes. |

Members of the Art House Co-op must be members of the Ocean
Springs Art Association for six months before making application
to join the Art House. If there is an opening, a prospective
member must submit representative samples of their work to the
Standards Committee. If the work is accepted, the new member is
invited to join. If they are not selected, they are encouraged
to reapply at a later time. Membership fees, which help to pay
rent, utilities and publicity costs are assessed three times a
year.
Each
artist is basically a co-owner in the Art House. Each member
works
at least once a month as hostess and artist-in-residence.
You
will often find artists at work on the days that they work at
the Art House.
New art is rotated every four months, ensuring that new art is
displayed throughout the year.
